About JPRA
Motto: That others may live...To return with honor...
The Joint Personnel Recovery Agency (JPRA) is a Chairman's Controlled Activity aligned under the Director, Joint Staff J-7. JPRA is designated as DoD's office of primary responsibility for DoD-wide personnel recovery matters, less policy. JPRA is headquartered in Fort Belvoir, Virginia with schools located in Fredericksburg, VA and Spokane, WA.

The DoD personnel recovery mission is important for a number of reasons:

  • To return isolated personnel to friendly control
  • To deny the enemy a potential source of intelligence
  • To prevent the exploitation of captured personnel in propaganda programs designed to influence our national interest and military strategy
  • To maintain morale and the national will.
